Objective – To analyze the knowledge and the attitude of the community health workers in the face of suspicion, detection and reporting of cases of domestic violence. Methods – This is a study of social representation, cross-sectional, descriptive, with a sample of 48 community health workers Teams of Health of a small city located in the region of Family Araçatuba, State of São Paulo. Data were collected through the application of a semi-structured questionnaire and self-administered in a single day and presented in absolute and percentage frequencies. Content analysis was used in open questions. The following dimensions were defined: understanding of domestic violence, service limitations and intervention strategies. Results – The domestic violence was reported by 71% (n = 34) as a common problem in the locality in which they work, 73% (n = 35) answered that do not consider themselves responsible for notification and 77% (n = 37) believed that should do something about it. Conclusions – It follows that knowledge of community workers in the face of suspicion, detecting and reporting domestic violence situations is poor. It is essential that the manager review the knowledge of the ACS and the Domestic violence is incorporated into lifelong learning strategies with shared responsibility between professionals and families.
