Introduction — The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical performance of Class I restorations performed by means of the Atraumatic Restorative Treatment, after a period of 6 months. Methods - One operator accomplished 50 restorations in 16 children aged 4 to 7 years, employing the glass ionomer cement Vidrion R (S. S. White) as the restorative material. The restorative procedures were performed following the guidelines of the Atraumatic Restorative Treatment handout. After a period of 6 months, the 50 restorations were evaluated according to the following criteria: O (presence of restoration, with no need of replacement), 1 (presence of restoration, with need of replacement), 2 (missing restoration, replaced by another treatment), 3 (missing restoration), 4 (extracted or exfoliated tooth). Results — The scores observed were: success (score 0) and failure (score 1 and 3). The success rate was 88%. Conclusion — lt was concluded that the Atraumatic Restorative Treatment is a good option for single-surface restorations for patients that cannot afford a conventional dental treatment.
