Resumo (EN)
Objective – to identify the feelings experienced by the women of a Family Health Strategy in Janaúba, Minas Gerais, before the Papa-nicolaou preventive exam. Methods – It is a descriptive study of a qualitative nature, aimed at 25 women aged 25-64 who underwent the examination in the second half of 2015. Data were collected between March and April 2016 through a semi-structured interview. Results – The results revealed positive feelings regarding the conduct of the professional performing the procedure (trust), negative perception regarding the technique of the procedure (fear of pain) and the context of collecting the material to be examined (shame, embarrassment and anxiety). Conclusion – That there is a need to develop health education actions, so that women understand the importance of the examination and seek their achievement, in this sense it is important that the professional act in a humanized way during the examination to soften the negative feelings of women.
