Introduction - The perception of dental fluorosis depends upon cultural, socioeconomic and psychological factors. This study aimed to verify the satisfaction and bother in relation to the dental appearance among 12 schoolchildren in the county of Ponta Grossa-PR associated to the presence of dental fluorosis. Material and Method - The research analyzed 113 schoolchildren, employing the Dean Index, according to WHO (1999) by a single calibrated examiner (Kappa = 0,93). It was applied a questionnaire about the satisfaction and bother with the dental appearance. Results -The prevalence of fluorosis was of 20,35%, with the presence of grades very mild and mild. There was no statistical significant difference between sex and dental fluorosis (Mann-Whitney: P = 0,4818). There was no correlation between the presence of fluorosis and the level of aesthetic satisfaction in the male group (X = 3,098, p = 0,5415) as well as the female (X = 1,603, p = 0,8083). In relation to the unsatisfaction with the dental appearance, only 8,7% of those who showed dental fluorosis identified the problem, but without significance between males (X = 1 1,875; p = 0,1569) or females (X = 12,811; p = 0,1185). Conclusion - The present research was concluded that the presence of very mild and mild dental fluorosis were perceived by the schoolchildren, but not contributed for the aesthetic dissatisfaction.
