Objective – To analyze the peripheral blood morphological changes, in cases with MDS, and to relate with the types of MDS described by World Health Organization (WHO), with the prognostic value and with the immunophenotype changes. Methods – Were analyzed peripheral blood smear to observe the number of changes in the morphology of leukocytes and erythrocytes, their blood counts and their bone marrow immunophenotyping. Results – The most frequent Neutrophil change was the hypogranulation, present in all kinds. The presence of circulating myeloblasts was more frequent in Refractory Anemias with Excess Blasts. Regarding WHO groups, the most cases was Refractory cytopenia with multilineage dysplasia. In the worst prognostics, the hemoglobin was low. It was observed that the greater the number of phenotypic changes, lower the total leukocytes, the hemoglobin and the neutrophil. Conclusion – No morphological alteration of red cell and neutrophil was related to the classification, with prognostic and cytometric data.
