With the increment of carriers of oral and perioral piercing, mainly in the young population, the dentist should be prepared to diagnose and to treat the possible sequels caused by the use of those piercing, and mainly to guide these patients on the hazards that these ornaments as: pain, edema, inflammation, swelling, increase of the flow to salivate, chipping and cracking of the teeth, injury in the periodontal tissue, all of types of infections, airway obstruction, difficulty in the speech, swallowing and mastication. The aim of this work is to present the different types of oral piercing and its adverse effects.
Resumo
Com o acréscimo de portadores de piercings orais e periorais, principalmente na população jovem, o cirurgião-dentista deve estar preparado para diagnosticar e tratar as possíveis seqüelas causadas pelo uso desses piercings, e principalmente orientar seus pacientes sobre as injúrias que estes ornamentos podem lhes acarretar, como: dor, edema, inflamação, inchaço, aumento do fluxo salivar, fraturas e traumas dentários, trauma no tecido periodontal e mucosa, infecção por bactérias, fungos e vírus, obstrução das vias aéreas, dificuldade na fala, deglutição e mastigação. O intuito deste trabalho é apresentar os diferentes tipos de piercings orais e periorais e seus efeitos adversos.
