Objective – To examine records of patients with facial trauma underwent surgical treatments to profile these patients and subsequently facilitate the planning of injury prevention campaigns. Physical trauma is a serious public health problem in the country. The head and neck region, especially the face, is among the most affected anatomical regions. In general cause facial trauma injuries and sequelae that require intervention by hospital emergency staff. Epidemiological studies are essential to plan and evaluate public health actions. Methods – This is a descriptive cross-sectional analysis of 248 cases brought to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Emergency Hospital of Goiania in the period January to July 2013. Results– The obtained data permit to divide the categories age, gender, cause of trauma and region face most affected. The most common age is between 20-35 years, with 45,7% incidence. The male gender was the most affected with 79.4%. Amog the etiologies, the traffic accident was the most frequent cause (44.3)%, highlighting the motorcycle accidents. The lower third of the face was the most affected (57.7%). Conclusions – It is concluded that traffic accidents arestill a major cause of facial trauma and that the profile of the patients are young adults, this way is extremely importatn to implemente preventive actions to try to reduce the causes, injuries and sequelae.
