The paper reports the possibility of salt fluoridation as a vehicle of choice in prevention of dental caries, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of the pour of fluorine in table salt. The recommended dosages of fluorine in table salt vary according to the alimentary habits and the costs are low if compared to the other systemic means. Water fluoridation couldn't happen in association to the use of salt fluoridation, because population would be exposed to a high dosage of systemic fluoride. Thus, fluoride in salt is a substitutive method because it aways forces the choice between one method or other.
