Objective– To carry out a study of microbiological and toxicological investigation of the dry crude extract of the aerial parts of Borreriaverticillata. Borreriaverticillata, popularly known as button-broom, has in its aerial parts a wide variety of secondary metabolites, wherethese generate their antimicrobial and toxicological activity. Methods– This is an exploratory laboratory experimental study, whereEBS of aerial parts was obtained from maceration, its antimicrobial activity against pathogenic microorganisms was tested using diskdiffusion methods, thus determining the Inhibitory Concentration Minimum and Minimum Inhibitory Adherence Concentration. Itstoxicity was assessed against ArtemiaSalinaLeach and through erythrocyte osmotic fragility. Results – EBS showed little toxicity, inaddition to showing action against the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. Conclusions– Therefore, it was possible to analyze that theEBS of the aerial parts ofB.verticillatacan be used for the production of new drugs because it exhibits sensitivity to some microorganismsand has little toxicity, however it is necessary to carry out other tests to confirm the results obtained.
