Objective – To determine the amount of sodium in different foods and compare with the target proposed by affidavit from the Ministry of Health and associations representing various sectors of the food business. Methods – The labels of food products included in the Statement of Commitment n ° 004/2011, establishing between the food industry and the Ministry of Health available at a supermarket in the national grid, to compare with the products surveyed are now adequate to sodium contents as herein. Results – The amount of sodium is the most suitable products. The products were less suitable instant noodles, biscuits and sweets and savory spice broth. Conclusion – From this study it can be seen that the strategy proposed by the government in partnership with the food industry, with the aim of reducing sodium intake among the population and consequently reduce the epidemic of hypertension and other chronic diseases has performed well adhered between industries, despite still being best adaptations necessary in some food groups, as well as inclusion of other products most consumed by the population. However, this strategy alone is not enough to control non-communicable diseases, should be required other types of intervention to the future results can be positive.
