Resumo (EN)
Objective – The main objective of this work is to learn about the Infirmary graduate’s vision upon a patient’s death. Method – The methodology has a qualitative aspect, it was performed through a semi-structured interview with the academics of the sixth, seventh and eighth semester of the Ribeirão Preto’s University. Results – The results show the difficulty these students have in dealing with the event of death and it points out the feelings of fear, impotence, sadness, indifference, nostalgia, attachment associated with separation, just like a natural process, or even the miss preparation that is seen in most of the graduates’ testimonials, showing their need of support during the graduating period. We noticed that in some testimonials, the college provides a special preparation, but the daily experiences are also important. What stands out is that education and personal formation are responsible for many of the reactions mentioned here. Conclusions – In conclusion, it’s necessary the college to understand the need to work on both the personal and professional formation of the infirmary technicians and auxiliaries students, and maybe change the approaching way of teaching this topic in subjects such as psychology and ethics, offering a discussion about life and death, preparing their graduates to become more secure and prepared professionals in the future.
