The Parque da Juventude, following the implosion of the Carandiru Penitentiary Complex, is examined as a cultural text and a site of remembrance. The objective is to critically examine the construction of memories associated with the Carandiru Complex and the strategies of forgetting that manifest within the Park. This analysis is grounded in the semiotic theory of culture, drawing upon research on social memory and the concept of flânerie. The xpectation
is to illustrate that within the Parque da Juventude there are conflicts between memories and forgetting materialized in cultural texts.
Resumo
Examina- se o Parque da Juventude, posterior à implosão do Complexo Penitenciário do Carandiru, como texto cultural e espaço de recordação. Objetiva-se problematizar a construção das memórias do Complexo do Carandiru e as estratégias de esquecimento presentes no Parque. A análise baseia-se na teoria semiótica da cultura, em estudos sobre memória social e na flânerie. Espera-se demonstrar que no Parque da Juventude convivem embates entre memórias e esquecimentos materializados em textos culturais.
