Resumo (EN)
Introduction – The Alzheimer disease has been growing the prevalent in the world. The objetive of this study was to characterize the older people identified with Alzheimer disease. Material and Method – This is an exploratory study, prospective and non experimental, with strong transversal view and was conducted in “old-aged institutions”, two of them private and two non-profitable in the São Paulo state. Were analyzed 36 elders, from August to September of 2006. Results – The results demonstrated that the old-aged characterized with Alzheimer disease requires special care and nursery assistance differentiated from other patients. Conclusion – Training and continuing education for professionals with specific content of nursing care for the elderly, institutionalized with Alzheimer’s disease.
