Analyze the publications in the area of nursing held in 2006 to 2012 on childhood cancer. This is narrative review of the literature, using the databases BDENF, LILACS and SciELO, during the period from 2006 to 2012. Of the 241 publications, 14 were included in this review. The main objectives of the publications referred to the experiences of children with cancer and the role of the nurse in assisting these. As for the subject, mostly composed of nurses. It should be noted that studies of type review were also found. As for the main results/conclusions, it was possible to observe the need for authors to expose the perceptions of nurses in the care of children with cancer. Another focus of attention of the articles was the use of recreational activities in the pediatric patient care. It should be noted that one of the studies addressed the preparation of nursing students to deal with the process of care and cure, however, they feel powerless to deal with the death in pediatric oncology. This publications on the subject have revealed the importance of the nurse to know about childhood cancer and about the experiences of children in the face of illness, in order to provide care resolutive and humanized. Thus, it is necessary to further development of research on this subject, thus spreading greater awareness about childhood cancer to the field of nursing.
