Resumo (EN)
The objective of this study was to evaluate whether the oral health self-perception of Brazilian elderly is consistent with their oral clinical conditions. The databases VHL, Medline, Scielo, LILACS and BBO were used. Ten articles were selected. It was evidenced that the elderly did not perceive their actual oral clinical conditions and associated extractions and pain as part of the elderly condition. In addition, despite the wide need for dental treatments, the search for them was minimal, and conditioned the presence of pain. It is concluded that prevention and health promotion should be encouraged so that the elderly can better understand and have adequate oral health.
