Opportunity and uncertainty are relevant constructs in entrepreneurship and are widely explored by scholars in the field. However, significant questions remain to be clarified; one such area involves the still-under-explored studies addressing entrepreneurship through the lens of uncertainty as a central theoretical construct. Central to this reflection is the literature on entrepreneurial judgment. The objective of this study is to analyze how agtech entrepreneurs exercise entrepreneurial judgment when facing uncertainties within a high-opportunity context. To this end, the study addresses the knowledge gap regarding entrepreneurial judgment and how entrepreneurs handle uncertainty—even in contexts of high entrepreneurial opportunity—drawing on theoretical perspectives such as Knightian uncertainty and the Judgment-Based Approach (JBA) and its evolution into the Theory of Entrepreneurial Judgment (TEJ), areas that remain under-explored by researchers in the field. A qualitative, predominantly exploratory methodological strategy was employed, utilizing a multiple-case study method. Data collection involved 25 startups embedded in agribusiness networks in the state of Mato Grosso. Data analysis was qualitative and content-based, grounded in theoretical propositions. Furthermore, the analyses—operationalized through the Beliefs-Actions-Results (BAR) model—enabled a deeper understanding of the entrepreneur's mental processes and subjective reasons for taking action under uncertainty. The results indicate that, in the studied context, agtech entrepreneurs' beliefs are strongly anchored in ensuring business continuity and financial sustainability. Regarding actions, the most frequently identified in the field were technology investment, networking strategies, organizational restructuring, and digital adaptation. Regarding the results of the analysis, key highlights included: the validation of judgments concerning the company's market survival, financial regularization, the acquisition of new clients, and the expansion of the producer network, among others. This thesis offers significant contributions. First, the inductive categorization of interviews enabled the identification of novel patterns of intersection across cases, as well as the mapping and grouping of situations involving uncertainty and the entrepreneurial judgment processes within these ventures. The theoretical approach fostered deeper reflection on the construct of uncertainty—and its potential centrality to entrepreneurship—through the lens of entrepreneurial judgment. Furthermore, this study shed light on important dimensions of the phenomenon that had previously been little explored or understood, suggesting advancements in entrepreneurship literature by examining agtech entrepreneurial networks embedded in the agribusiness context. Alongside theoretical contributions to the field of Entrepreneurial Judgment Theory, the study also offers empirical insights, allowing entrepreneurs to understand the key beliefs, actions, and outcomes associated with the entrepreneurial process under uncertainty. Thus, the originality of this thesis lies partly in shifting the study of entrepreneurship under uncertainty from a predominantly theoretical realm to a more practical one—a move essential for the maturation of Entrepreneurial Judgment Theory. In other words, it proposes an advancement in the literature by seeking to transform predominantly abstract concepts into observable, practical data.
