Demographic profiles and economic partners are closely related to the degree of development of a population. This factor can, in turn, influence the way pets are raised. The purpose of the present study was to establish a responsible ownership score in dogs and cats from the items related to this topic. In obtaining the responsible guard scores for each of the species, it was associated with the economic partner profiles of the persons interviewed. 300 participants were questioned, of whom 205 were tutors of dogs and 95 of cats. The research was carried out in castration events in Santana de Parnaíba between December 2018 and January 2019. To investigate the association between socio-demographic characteristics and the guardianship score of pets, regression models were initially constructed of Poison univariate. Next, we analyzed the association between the type of animal and the income tertiles with the score of responsible ownership of dogs and cats adjusting models by sex and age of the guardians of the animals. The results obtained from dog guardians have a guard score of 10% higher than tutors of cats and that income influences the score of responsible guard.
