The thesis "The Diabolical Zé do Caixão" seeks to delineate the relations, both imagetic and discoursive, between the character Zé do Caixão e the Devil's figure printed into people's mind throughout the development of Western History. The analysis proposed to clarify these relations are based in: the character's aesthetic configuration; the cinematographical techniques employed to register such configuration; the narrative structures used in the films; and the heresies and blasphemies issued by the character. The studied films are: "À meia-noite levarei sua Alma"(l'II take your soul at midnight, 1964) and "Esta Noite Encarnarei no teu Cadáver" (I'll possess your dead body tonight", 1967) Therefore, to find the main elements that made possible to identify Zé do Caixão as a diabolical figure and to understand how Mojica developed his screenwriting to enhance that identification in the moviemaker's work will help to prove the central theme of this research: Zé do Caixão is the personification of the Devil.
