Resumo (EN)
Purpose: This article aims to analyze the profile of governance in the hospital sector.
Method / approach: The research approach is characterized by using the deductive method,
of an applied nature, being an exploratory qualitative approach, supported by a multi-case
study in hospital service networks. Data collection involved three different techniques: semistructured interviews with institutional managers, application of a questionnaire with
employees and analysis of the institutions' internal documentation.
Mains findings: The main results of the research indicate that the categories that refer to the
procedures of behavior and process controls are the most valued to the detriment of aspects
that focus on social relationships as strategic factors that promote trust and/or commitment.
Study contributions: The research presents, as a managerial and theoretical contribution, the
understanding that governance in the health area is directed towards practices of control and
exercise of power and regulation of bureaucratic processes.
Originality / relevance: The relevance of the research is established by clarifying a gap in the
understanding of governance in hospital health, which, according to the data in this research,
presents differences in relation to other sectors of the economy.
